The Tiverton Prevention Coalition in conjunction with the Tiverton Booster Club invite parents and community members to Basketball Junkie: an Evening with Chris Herren on Thursday, Feb 2nd from 6:30 to 8 pm at Tiverton High School. Prevention and Treatment professionals will be on hand to answer questions after the presentation.
Chris Herren, a basketball legend from Fall River, lived the dream of every high school athlete. He broke scoring records, was courted by top colleges, featured in Sports Illustrated, became the focus of an acclaimed book, Fall River Dreams, and played for the Celtics in the NBA. He lost it all to addiction: first alcohol, then cocaine and oxycontin, and finally heroin.
Chris has been clean and sober since 2008 and he’s refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. In June of 2009, Chris launched “Hoop Dreams with Chris Herren, Inc.” and has trained over 200 basketball players including some of the top basketball prospects in New England. In 2011, he founded The Herren Project, a non-profit foundation that educates at-risk populations on addiction and helps others in taking the first steps toward recovery and a life of sobriety.
Don’t miss Basketball Junkie, An Evening with Chris Herren. It’s a tale of his harrowing descent into addiction, a miraculous recovery and his new life mission: to share his story with audiences in the hopes of reaching just one person and making a difference in their life.
