The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and contest sponsor Edy's Fruit Bars have awarded Sandywoods Farm a free fruit orchard in this year's Communities Take Root online voting contest. Sandywoods finished in first place in the fourth and final round of voting.
A Fruit Tree Planting will be held at Sunday, Sept. 25. All are welcome. The fun starts at 11 am. There will be 50 fruit trees to plant! If you can, please bring a round-pointed shovel, garden rake, and gloves, and your muscles Edy's will be there with free fruit bars. FTPF arborist Rico Montenegro will supervise the tree planting and offer everyone a free fruit tree care workshop. All are invited to a post-planting community potluck early supper. Please bring a dish to share! Our best guess is we'll be done in the field and ready to eat by 4 pm.
Directions to Sandywoods appear below. Once you're on Muse Way, before heading to the orchard site, please stop at 43 Muse Way (the large white building) to drop off your potluck contribution.
To get to the orchard site, drive to the corner of Muse Way and Meadow View Lane. Turn left onto Meadow View and continue past the last building on your right. The planting site will be just ahead in the field on your right. Please park along the right side of Meadow View. If all spaces are taken, continue up Meadow View to the stop sign, past the planting site, and you'll find more on-street parking along both Terra Verde Drive and Vitruvian Way.
