Fort Barton Elementary Named a Blue Ribbon School.

Fort Barton Elementary School is the first in Newport County to receive a National Blue Ribbon.

Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, announced that Fort Barton Elementary School has been identified as a Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education. Fort Barton and 336 other schools from across the country were recognized as a Blue Ribbon Schools. This award is based on the overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

Fort Barton is being recognized as an Exemplary High Performing School which is among their state’s highest performing as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Student subgroup performance rates are also at the highest levels. In it’s 32-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized almost 7,900 of America’s schools.
