Grab and Go Kids Planner: "The Lion King" Performance and "Barbie: A Fairy Secret" Playing This Weekend

Here are some activities that are big on fun and most are light on your wallet, such as the Fall River Children's Health Heart Festival this Saturday.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

I hear you. With all this snow, your getting cabin fever. You want to spend some time with your kids outside of the house. We’ve got you covered (and this time not with snow). Here’s some fun events that are a great ways to spend time with your kids, many that are  easy on your budget.

  1. "THE LION KING" AT THE PROVIDENCE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
    Where/When:
    Feb 6 to Feb. 20, 220 Weybosset St., Providence.
    Why Go: To see the Tony Award-winning Broadway sensation "The Lion King."
    Pricing: Between $28 and $133
  2. THE ANNUAL FALL RIVER CHILDREN'S HEALTHY HEART FESTIVAL
    Where/When: Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. is the at the CD Recreation (72 Bank St., Fall River, MA). 
    Why Go: Enjoy free snacks and drinks, entertainment, crafts, face painting,  a health fair and some great prize giveaways. 
    Pricing: Free
  3. KIDTOONS MOVIES AT SHOWCASE CINEMAS
    Where/When: "Barbie: A Fairy Secret" is playing on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 at Showcase Cinemas Seekonk, MA, at 110 Commerce Way, Seekonk.
    Why Go: G-rated movies are shown monthly at participating theatres.  You can check the Kidtoons website for other theatres as well.
    Pricing: Child Admission is only $3.50 and includes a concession coupon for a $3.50 kids combo. Adults are $3.50 as well, but does not include the food coupon.
  4. KIDS ACTIVITY MONTH AT SWANSEA MALL
    Where/When: Saturday, Feb. 12 from 12 to 2 p.m. at 262 Swansea Mall Drive, Swansea, MA.
    Why Go: In celebrating Valentine's Day, your child can have fun making a “Valentine Cookie Creation." This event is held at the Sears Court and is open to the first 100 kids. To pre-register call the customer service desk  at  508-679-2543. Sign up free for the kids club and you will be notified every month of the kids activities.
    Pricing: Free
  5. FREE BUILD AND GROW CLINIC AT LOWES
    Where/when: Saturday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m., 55 Faunce Corner Mall, North Dartmouth, MA.
    Why Go: Your child can build a free project each month at the Lowes. This month the craft is a heart-shaped music box. You need to pre-register your child, but you can do that on the website.
    Pricing: Free
