Little Compton Organizations Awarded $19.5K in Grants from Rhode Island Foundation

Parent Partners, Little Compton Community Center and Friends of Little Compton Wellness Center will use the grants to improve the community.

Three Little Compton organizations that fight community issues were awarded a total of $19,450 in grants by the Rhode Island Foundation.

The Rhode Island Foundation offers grants to organizations and programs that look to improve the community. The foundation looks to help organizations across the state to reach their potential through leadership, fundraising and grantmaking activities.

Parent Partners in Little Compton was awarded a $9,500 grant to support a mentoring program that helps parents with young children through weekly mentoring and workshops for finances and budgeting, health and wellness, goal setting, career and education opportunities and life skills.

The Little Compton Community Center was awarded a $5,000 grant to develop a program for teenagers to participate in community service. The program looks to provide on-site volunteer support and service to the elderly, disabled and low income residents and to work with Newport County service organizations.

The Friends of Little Compton Wellness Center was awarded a $4,950 grant to create a plan to improve the center’s programming and financial sustainability.

The RI Foundation awarded $34.8 million in grants in 2014, the most in the organization’s 98-years of existence. The organization said local organizations received a total of almost $600,000.

Two Tiverton organizations that focus on animal welfare met the foundation’s criteria for a grant.

Other local organizations that received grants include: the Boys and Girls Club of Newport County, the YMCA of Newport County, the East Bay Community Action Program, Child and Family Services of Newport County and the Newport County Community Mental Health Center.
