Paint Tiverton Blue: A Few Lightbulbs Still Left

The residents are lighting blue bulbs to show support for law enforcement.

TIVERTON, RINewport might opt for white Christmas lights, but Tiverton's Police Department and firefighters like blue.

They like it so much they've invited residents and business owners to join and “Paint Tiverton Blue",

It works like this. Display one -- or many --blue lights outside the home or business. Show support for local law enforcement officers.

"Free blue light bulbs have been available at Humphrey’s Building Supply, Tiverton Police Headquarters, and the Fire Department, but supplied are limited," the organizers said. Donations are welcome. Money will go to continue the “Paint Tiverton Blue!” program. All donations in the form of check or money order payable to IBPO Local 406 will be accepted at both locations.

Participants are asked to present a driver’s license or identification card indicating their proof of residency in order to receive a free bulb. Limit one free bulb per household/business. Additional bulbs may be purchased from Humphrey’s Building Supply for $4.99 or $11.99 (depending upon the bulb style).

Blue lighters could wind up on the police department's Facebook page.

"Tiverton residents and business owners that display their blue light in support of law enforcement are encouraged to submit a photograph of your home or business so it may be displayed as “painted blue” on the Tiverton Police Department’s Facebook page."
