Golf Season Begins and Rain Wreaks Havoc With Tiger Sports Schedules

Wet weather forced numerous postponements for Tiverton High School spring sports teams last week, setting up the possibility of cramped contest schedules in the remaining weeks of the season. Despite the weather, the Tigers continued to thrive in softball

BASEBALL

Tiverton posted its first road victory of the spring, erupting for 13 hits and scoring all its runs in three big innings en route to a 19-8 Division I crossover win at Warwick Vets High School. Derrick Paquette ripped four hits and drove in three runs to pace the Tigers (3-6), while teammate Jacob Kapstein knocked in four runs with three safeties. Southpaw John Hartnett pitched a complete game to notch the triumph.

Earlier in the week, the Tigers collected their second win of the season – both at home – by overcoming Toll Gate High of Warwick, 10-8, in a Division I crossover contest. Tiverton wasted an early four-run lead, then rallied from a late two-run deficit to overhaul the Titans. Kapstein and Mike Perella both rapped three hits for the winners and Hartnett (with relief help from B.K. Kiser) registered the win on the hill.

Rachel Pimental clubbed 2 hits and drove in a run for Tiverton and losing pitcher Jessica Drolet struck out 12 batters.
