Route 24 Bridge in Tiverton Closed Tuesday for Repairs

Be ready for a detour if you're heading north on Route 24 in Tiverton on Tuesday.

The right lane on a segment of Route 24 North in Tiverton was closed on Saturday night after the discovery of a bridge’s broken expansion joint.

The entire bridge will be closed on Tuesday for repairs, the state Department of Transportation said in a release on Saturday.

The DOT was alerted by Tiverton Police late Saturday morning about broken pavement at a bridge joint on the bridge that carries Route 24 over Fish Road.

An inspection showed that the expansion joint needs to be repaired and crews will start work at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7.

All lanes of Route 24 will be closed, the DOT said, and traffic will be diverted off the highway at the Fish Road exit and then right back onto Route 24 after the bridge.

Police will be helping traffic move through the work zone.

Route 24 south won’t be affected.

Delays are likely, so plan ahead if this part of Route 24 is in your daily travels.

Work is expected to be completed by Tuesday night.
