The Tiverton Police Department is now taking applications for the fifth session of the Citizens Police academy.
The Citizens Police Academy aims to give residents the opportunity to learn about the policies, missions and tasks performed by the Tiverton Police Department.

The first session will begin on Wednesday, March 4. Sessions are about 12 weeks long and the group meets once a week.
Citizens can expect to learn about the following topics:

- History and structure of the department
- Community policing
- Radio communications and the 911 system
- Search and seizure
- The elements of crimes and laws of arrest
- Crime/accident scene investigation, firearms simulation
- Elderly affairs
- Domestic violence
Those interested must fill out an application and a background check release form. Forms must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 20. Drop off the applications at police headquarters, 20 Industrial Way.
