Tiverton Councilor: Stop Straight-Ticket Voting

The system allows voters to make a single mark on a ballot for all the candidates of a single party.

A state Senate committee last week held a hearing on a bill that would eliminate the system, according to the Associated Press.

‘‘We would like to see people take the time and actually make a decision for each of the races,’’ Chabot told the committee, according to the AP.

Rhode Island is one of about a dozen states that have straight-ticket voting.
