Tiverton Hit-And-Run Pedestrian Crash Suspect Arrested In MA

Police said Sakhorn Tieng, 49, struck a Tiverton man with his car, dragged him for 50 feet and then ran him over.

TIVERTON, RI — A man was arrested Tuesday in Fall River, Massachusetts who Tiverton police said seriously injured a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday.

Sakhorn Tieng, 49, of Fall River, was charged with being a fugitive from justice, felony assault and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police said the crash happened around6:45 p.m., Sunday, in the 500th block of Bulgarmarsh Road. When officers arrived, they found Miles Hartnett, 32, of Tiverton, unconscious on the side of the road.

Witnesses told police the victim was driving a Volkswagen sedan and was being followed by a dark-colored SUV that Tieng was driving. Then a road rage incident started, resulting in Hartnett getting out of his car, police said.

When Hartnett got out of the sedan, police said Tieng stopped, backed up and then sped towards and struck him. The victim was dragged by the vehicle for about 50 feet before being run over. Police said the suspect then drove away east on Bulgarmarsh Road. Hartnett remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, police said.

Using video surveillance sources and witness interviews, Tiverton detectives tracked Tieng’s vehicle to the Jefferson Street area in Fall River. Police said they found Tieng’s vehicle in the driveway of his home. The vehicle had visible damage consistent with the crash, police said.

Tieng was arraigned in Fall River District Court Wednesday. He was ordered held without bail pending extradition to Rhode Island.
