Tiverton Police Warn Residents Of Child Kidnapping Scam

An unknown caller told a woman her child was kidnapped by drug dealers and demanded money, but the child was safe at school, police said.

TIVERTON, RI — A woman in Tiverton fell victim to a child kidnapping stand Friday, according to police.

Tiverton police said they were called for a reported kidnapping at the Walgreens at 677 Main Road. There, officers met with a woman who told police she received a phone call from an unknown man, saying her child was kidnapped from the store parking lot by drug dealers.

Police said the caller demanded money for the safe return of her child.

"Thanks to the quick response by our school resource officer, we were able to determine that the child was safe at school," police said in a statement. "We later learned that a similar scam was reported to the Dighton MA Police Department."
