Tiverton Tigers Boys' and Girls' Soccer Teams Notching Wins
It was a highly productive week for fall sports teams at Tiverton High School, with the boys' soccer, girls' soccer, girls' tennis and girls' volleyball teams all producing successful results.
Fall sports teams at enjoyed banner successes last week, with notable victories in soccer, tennis and volleyball.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Tiverton posted a 4-0 Div. III-South , as Andrew Kinnane tallied 2 goals and Corey Newbury and Andrew Bonoan added 1 goal apiece. Bonoan also chipped in with 2 assists, Kinnane and Zach Blais added 1 assist each, and keepers Matt Ramos (6) and Hayden Costa (1) teamed up to share the shutout with a joint 7 saves.

Earlier, the Tigers had rebounded from an opening-match loss in stunning fashion, overwhelming Rogers High School of Newport, 9-1, in a Div. III-South encounter. Newbury hammered 3 goals, Kinnane and Bonoan contributed 2 goals apiece, and Andrew Sampaio and Mathew Platt added 1 goal each for Tiverton, which zoomed to a 6-0 advantage by halftime. Keepers Ramos (3) and Costa (5) combined for 8 saves for the winners.

Tiverton zoomed past North Providence High School, 4-0, in a recent Div. II match, outshooting the Cougars by a 19-3 margin. Tori Fryzel, Olivia Bergandy, Rebecca Mauricio and Mackenzie Mello all produced goals for the Tigers, while Liz Janick, Samantha Welchman and Bergandy chalked up 1 assist apiece. Tiverton keeper Haley Higginbottom required just 3 saves to notch a shutout.
“We totally dominated the game from start to finish,” said Tiger coach Joe Gill. “Our defense was outstanding.”
Earlier, the Tigers had notched their first Div. II victory of the season, hanging on to nip host East Providence High Schol, 3-2. Miranda Pacheco netted 2 goals for Tiverton, Olivia Bergandy added 1 goal and 2 assists, Samantha Welchman contributed 1 assist, and keeper Haley Higginbottom stopped 7 Townie shots.
Tiverton also last week for a critical Div. II victory.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Tiverton rolled past Central High School of Providence, 7-0, in a Div. III-South outing, losing no sets in the process. The Tigers swept the singles’ matches with No. 1 Mariah Korn (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Hannah Glowacki (6-2, 6-1), No. 3 Chelsea Petit (6-0, 6-4) and No. 4 Samantha Rollings (6-1, 6-4) and the doubles’ tilts behind No. 1 Tori Davis-Courtney Toler (6-0, 6-3), No. 2 Allie Motta-Meg McGrady (6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 Zuara Amaral-Mal Blake (6-0, 6-2).
Earlier, Tiverton blanked Mount Hope, 7-0, in a Div. III-South match. The Tigers triumphed in singles’ matches behind No. 1 Korn (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Glowacki (6-4, 6-4), No. 3 Petit (6-2, 6-0) and No. 4 Rollings (6-3, 6-0) as well as the doubles’ tandems of No. 1 Davis-Toler (6-1, 4-6, 6-0), No. 2 Motta-McGrady (4-6, 6-2, 11-9) and No. 3 Amaral-Blake (6-4, 6-2).
Also earlier, the Tigers won the first three singles’ matches but nothing else and dropped a 4-3 Division III-South decision to Exeter-West Greenwich High School. No. 1 Korn (6-3, 6-2), No. 2 Glowacki (6-4, 7-5) and No. 3 Petit (6-4, 6-3) all posted wins for Tiverton.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Tiverton rebounded from a season-opening loss to hold off Mount Hope, 3-2, in a Div. II battle (25-15, 26-28, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8). Kirstie Devine totaled 13 kills for the Tigers, while Ashley Destremps notched 11 assists and 6 service aces and Jackie Carmichael contributed 5 kills and 5 aces.
GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY
The Tigers launched their regular-season schedule with a 3-0 Div. II loss to South Kingstown High. Tiverton goalie Allison Raposa was credited with 7 saves.
