Tiverton Woman named Chief Development & Marketing Officer for the YMCA of Greater Providence

Karen Cooper will be in charge of marketing and development for the Y's nine Rhode Island branches and the Seekonk, Mass., Y.

TIVERTON, RI—Karen Cooper will join the YMCA's senior leadership team, according to Steven O’Donnell, the YMCA of Greater Providence chief executive officer.

Cooper has been named Chief Devttelopment & Marketing Officer for the Y's nine branches throughout Rhode Island and in Seekonk, Mass.

“We are so thrilled to welcome Karen to our senior leadership team,” O'Donnell said. “Karen’s extensive experience in development and marketing in the non-profit sector is invaluable to our organization, and puts us in a position to increase the impact that our services have on the local community.”

Before joining the YMCA, Cooper served in various leadership roles at Edesia, Plan International USA, ChildFund International, Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, Bridgewater State University and Salve Regina University.

She holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Salve Regina University in Newport and has received numerous industry accolades, including: Outstanding Fundraising Professional, Association of Fundraising Professionals RI Chapter, 2014; Salve Regina University Alumni Achievement Award, 2013; The Douglas K. Freeman Award for outstanding contributions to the Planned Giving profession, 2008; and Best Planned Giving Program & Best Catholic Foundation, International Catholic Stewardship Council, 2002 and 2004.

She is a member of the Leadership Institute and served on the National Board of Directors for the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (formerly Partnership for Philanthropic Planning); former President of Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of RI, a Trustee and Chair of the Finance Council at St. Theresa Church in Tiverton, RI; and serves on the Advisory Council for Pastoral Planning for Diocese of Providence. She resides in Tiverton.
