Treasure Hunt: Sip Coffee and Wander The Art Cafe in Little Compton

In the Friday Patch Passport, get out and explore the unique local shops in Tiverton and Little Compton.

Have a coffee outside among beautiful artwork and extensive gardens at in Little Compton, located at 7 South of Commons Road. Not only can you enjoy delicious pastry and brewed coffee flavors, but you can browse a diverse range of mediums in their gallery.

Owners Josie Arkins and Judith Parente are in their sixth year with the business. Arkins said they have at least 50 local artists on display, including all types of pottery, glassware, jewelry, paintings and sculptures.

"We try to be as diverse as possible," she said.

Blacksmith Steve Flowers also sells his fence gates at the cafe. One on display has reeds woven through it from the Ponderosa. There are also handmade postcards in the coffee shop.

Arkins added that a percentage of all their gallery proceeds goes to the Sakonnet Preservation Association. There's an open studio class every Wednesday for artists of all abilities, and on Thursday's during the summer is "art day," which is open to artists of all ages for a cost of $5.

They are open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the summer, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the fall and spring and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the winter. The Art Cafe is open seven days a week. They currently do not have a website or a telephone number.
