Woman Hurt in Collision with Fire Engine

A Westport, Mass., woman suffered injuries when her Nissan Murano collided with a Tiverton fire engine on Monday around 2:37 p.m.

TIVERTON, RI — A Westport, Mass., woman suffered "significant" injuries Monday when her car collided with a Tiverton fire engine. According to Tiverton police, the crash happened on Bulgarmarsh Road (west of the intersection with Cornell Road) around 2:37 p.m. Firefighters told police Lucia Borges, 46, swerved her Nissan Murano into the fire engine's lane and hit the truck. They treated her at the scene, and she was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Borges, of Westport, Mass., was reported in stable condition Monday in the trauma unit. Tiverton and state police are investigating the cause of the crash. Firefighters Donald K. Clark and Brian Thompson, both 29, were taken to Saint Anne's Hospital, Fall River, Mass., for observation. They were released later on Monday.
