PROVIDENCE, RI — A Massachusetts man was charged in federal court with trying to set up a sex date with a 14-year-old girl in Warwick.
Jung Nam, 35, was actually communicating with an East Providence police detective with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force he believed was a 14-year-old girl, according to an affidavit filed in federal court.
Nam was indicted in July on federal charges of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, possession of child pornography, and receipt of child pornography.
In July 2025, the detective created a profile on the anonymous social media and private chat application Hush for a Kent County woman between the ages of 18 and 20, but when "contacted by other users, the detective disclosed that she was 14 years old," according to an affidavit written by Department of Homeland Security Special Agent James V. Richardson.
Nam sent the detective a private message from the username "Azure_Cloudy," and the two continued to communicate on other apps before eventually setting up the 1 p.m. Warwick sex date, picking that time because he believed the supposed teen's mother would be working from noon to 8 p.m., according to the affidavit.
When Nam arrived at the arranged location, members of the task force confronted him and ordered him out of his car, the affidavit said.
"Nam refused to obey commands but was ultimately arrested by the Rhode Island State Police," the affidavit said.
Following his July 2025 arrest, Nam was charged in state court with the indecent solicitation of a child and resisting arrest.
