• Gimme' Shelter: Cleopatra is now receiving visitors at the RI SPCA! (rinewstoday.com) — If you're thinking about adopting a dog, Cleopatra, a loyal and energetic shepherd mix, is now meeting potential families at the RISPCA in Warwick. She's good with other pets, has lived with kids, and loves walks and rope toys. Locals can visit the shelter to see if this "queen" might be the perfect fit for their home.
• How penalties helped sink Hendricken in stunning final-seconds loss (providencejournal.com) — Warwick football fans saw Bishop Hendricken lose a heartbreaker at home when New York's Chaminade scored a game-winning touchdown as time expired, turning a near-certain Hawks victory into an 18-17 defeat. Costly penalties, including multiple personal fouls and a late false start, repeatedly stalled Hendricken's chances and left coaches stressing discipline as a key lesson going forward.
• OBITUARY: Raymond Joseph St. Martin, 56 (wilmingtonapple.com) — Warwick residents are mourning Raymond J. St. Martin, 56, a Warwick Veterans Memorial High School graduate and longtime engineer who loved local hobbies, restaurants, and time with family. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Quinn Funeral Home on Warwick Avenue, with funeral services and burial in Pawtuxet Memorial Park on Thursday, offering neighbors a chance to pay their respects.
