Three people who had previously been barred from the property due to code and safety violations, including lack of electricity, were arrested on willful trespass charges. Animal Control also responded and ensured a dog at the scene was placed with a responsible caretaker.
2. Homeless in RI: Sandwich Party Sunday. URI Student Builds Community (rinewstoday.com) — A Warwick college student is growing his Sandwich Party Sunday project, which gathers volunteers to make and share meals with people experiencing homelessness in nearby Providence. He's working with URI mentors, local partners, and donors to turn the effort into a year-round program that offers food, community, and practical skills, and is seeking more volunteers and support.
3. NBC 10 AM Flash Briefing September 18, 2026 (turnto10.com) — Warwick fire crews put out a camper fire Thursday afternoon, one of several stories in NBC 10's latest news briefing. The update also covers a Taunton murder charge, insight from a juror in the Lindsay Clancy case, plans to revitalize the Newport Creamery chain, and leadership changes in Providence schools that could affect local families.
4. There's a name for working families who are surviving but not thriving in Rhode Island: ALICE • Rhode Island Current (rhodeislandcurrent.com) — A new United Way of Rhode Island report, unveiled at CCRI's Warwick campus, finds about 43% of state households fall below the ALICE threshold, meaning they work but still struggle to cover basics. The study shows many local childcare workers, construction laborers, and seniors are barely getting by, and aims to guide employers and lawmakers toward better support for working families.
