1. Warwick Council Holds Stop Sign Plan Over Traffic Study (upriseri.com) — Warwick's City Council has delayed a decision on converting three neighborhood intersections to four-way stops until Oct. 19, after questions arose about a traffic study that didn't match on-the-ground conditions. For now, nothing changes at the intersections, but councilors will revisit the proposal with clarified data, alongside other pending stop-sign requests that could affect local cut-through traffic and bus stop safety.
2. Warwick High School Contingency Could Drop Below $2 Million (upriseri.com) — Warwick's Building Committee has approved a $14.25 million payment to keep its two new high schools moving forward, even as the project contingency could fall from $6.8 million to under $2 million. Residents should know that upcoming expenses for bleachers, slab moisture work, environmental cleanup, and furniture may tighten the budget, while smaller school projects and environmental issues at Pilgrim High are also being managed.
3. Attorney says man arrested with gun at T.F. Green was hired as director of operations (coastalabc.com) — A newly hired director-level employee at T.F. Green International Airport in Warwick was arrested and fired after security found an unloaded handgun and knife in his bag at an employee checkpoint. His attorney says he self-reported the weapon, had just moved his family here for the job, and hopes prosecutors will drop the felony charge, raising questions about airport hiring and security procedures.
4. Rhode Island fire officials warn of rising lithium-ion battery fire risks (wpri.com) — Warwick hosted a statewide fire-safety seminar where Rhode Island officials warned that lithium-ion battery fires are rising and urged residents to evacuate immediately if one starts. Speakers stressed buying only UL-tested devices and promised more community outreach, giving Warwick-area families clear guidance on safer use of e-bikes, scooters, and other battery-powered gear at home.
