Trial Set For Councilor Charged With Child Porn Possession In RI

WARWICK, RI — A Jan. 16 trial has been set for the Massachusetts city councilor who was arrested in Warwick, Rhode Island in 2020 and charged with possession of child pornography, according to WWLP.

Holyoke City Councilor Wilmer Puello-Mota was also arrested and charged in 2022 on suspicion of obstruction of the judicial system, forgery, and counterfeiting, arrest records show.

Puello-Mota rejected an officer from prosecutors last year to plead guilty in exchange for a five-year sentence on the charge of child pornography possession after he allegedly Venmoed a 17-year-old girl money for sexually explicit photos, WWLP reported.

If he took the offer, Puello-Mota would have only spent two of the five years in prison, according to the outlet.
