7 Children Hurt in Woonsocket When Driver Hits School Bus, Police Say

Seven children were hurt in Woonsocket Thursday morning when a driver hit a school bus full of children, police said.

Melissa Escomilha, of Woonsocket, allegedly drove away after the crash. She was caught a short time later and charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, and obstruction.

Police said there were 31 children on the Valley Transportation bus. Five of them—plus two children in Escomilha’s car—were hospitalized with minor injuries, police said.
