Northern RI legislators raise traffic concerns over new elementary school coming to Smithfield Road (nrinow.news) — Woonsocket and North Smithfield drivers could face heavier congestion on Smithfield Road once the new Nasuti Elementary School opens on the former Barry Field site near Park Square. Local legislators and Woonsocket’s public works director are pressing RIDOT for traffic-safety upgrades before the 2027–28 school year, and they’re urging residents to speak up about their concerns.
2. Rain didn't cancel all of Thursday's games. Here's what happened. (providencejournal.com) — Woonsocket fans have plenty to cheer about after the Novans baseball team walked off Pawtucket 4-3 behind Julian DeJesus’s dominant eight-inning outing, plus a competitive volleyball showing against Lincoln. The roundup also lists tonight’s boys volleyball home match vs. Juanita Sanchez and many other statewide high school scores and postponements from Thursday’s rain-affected slate.
3. NBC 10 AM Flash Briefing: April 29, 2026 (turnto10.com) — A Woonsocket woman was arrested after Rhode Island State Police say she led officers on vehicle chases through Smithfield, Johnston, and Providence, a case likely to interest local readers following regional crime. The same NBC 10 flash briefing also highlights a viral West Warwick video, Johnston school layoffs, Cranston’s budget troubles, and a separate fraud investigation in Easton.
4. Woonsocket, RI Man Sentenced in Violent Attack of Girlfriend (wbsm.com) — A Woonsocket man has been sentenced to 6.5 to nine years in Massachusetts state prison, plus lengthy probation, for a violent 2025 assault on his girlfriend that began after leaving work and was tied to their home in Woonsocket. Police in multiple communities, including Providence, were involved before his eventual arrest.
5. Former Fall River woman out on bail arrested on new charges after police chase through multiple communities (fallriverreporter.com) — A 21-year-old Woonsocket woman is facing new charges after Rhode Island State Police say she led officers on a late-night high-speed chase that began when local departments tried to stop her vehicle. The pursuit ended in a Providence crash, and she was later held as a probation and bail violator with several cash bails set and a May 5 court date.
