• Here's what happened in Rhode Island high school sports on Wednesday, May 6 (providencejournal.com) — Woonsocket fans have plenty to cheer about, with the Villa Novans boys volleyball team edging Pilgrim in a five-set thriller and the high school’s tennis squad set to host Portsmouth this afternoon. The roundup also highlights key results and standings across Rhode Island high school baseball, softball, lacrosse, golf, and more, plus today’s full statewide schedule so you can track local rivals.
• RI independent pharmacies push for reform over pricing, access concerns (wpri.com) — Independent pharmacies across Rhode Island are pushing lawmakers to rein in pharmacy benefit managers, arguing current practices are driving up drug prices and forcing small shops to close. The campaign builds on Attorney General Peter Neronha’s lawsuit against major PBMs, including CVS Caremark, whose parent company CVS Health is headquartered in Woonsocket and touts a large statewide economic impact. Local owners are urging customers to contact legislators and share their experiences.
• Gillibrand, Cantwell, Wyden, Booker Press FTC On Anti-Competitive Business Practices That Exacerbate Food Insecurity And Raise Grocery Prices (senate.gov) — Woonsocket residents are highlighted as having just one supermarket serving about 45,000 people, a situation senators blame on restrictive covenants that kept a former Walmart site vacant and barred new grocers. Four U.S. senators are pressing the FTC to crack down on these anti-competitive land-use agreements, arguing they worsen food and pharmacy deserts and keep grocery prices higher in communities like Woonsocket.
