📰 News we're reading

• Woonsocket Man Senteced To 10 Years In Federal Prison For Child Porn Possession (patch.com) — Woonsocket residents are learning that 51-year-old Jerry Lee Davenport has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after investigators found child sexual abuse material on thumb drives in his Woonsocket home. The case, built by Homeland Security Investigations and the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, also requires Davenport to pay $6,000 in restitution to identified victims.

• Public Notice of Intent to Issue a Categorical Exclusion to Woonsocket Water Division (einpresswire.com) — Woonsocket residents may soon see private-side lead water service lines replaced citywide, as state health officials plan a categorical exclusion for the Woonsocket Water Division’s upgrade project. RIDOH is taking public comments for 30 days and may hold a June 3 hearing in Providence if enough people request one, giving locals a chance to weigh in on this major drinking water improvement.

• AG tosses Open Meetings Act complaint against Quonset board (newsfromthestates.com) — Woonsocket’s planned closure of its regional sewage incinerator is a key reason backers say a $225 million sludge pyrolysis plant is needed at Quonset Business Park, but the project’s approval process has sparked major transparency concerns. The Rhode Island Attorney General’s office just rejected an Open Meetings Act complaint against the Quonset Development Corp., even as residents and North Kingstown officials continue legal and legislative challenges.
