BURLINGTON, VT — A Vermont man wanted in connection with a Woonsocket bank robbery who "has previously been arrested and charged with bank robberies in multiple New England states" was apprehended, police said.
Stephen Silva, 55, was "located and taken into custody without incident at a residence on Church Street" in Burlington, Vermont, Monday, the Chittenden County, Vermont, Sheriff's Office said in a media release.
"Silva, who has previously been arrested and charged with bank robberies in multiple New England states, was identified during routine civil process service when database checks revealed an active, extraditable warrant for Second Degree Robbery out of the State of Rhode Island," the release said.
Silva, a resident of Burlington, was charged with second-degree robbery in connection with a 2020 Woonsocket Police Department case, court records show.
"He was transported to the Chittenden County Sheriff's Office for processing, where fingerprint identification confirmed he was the subject of the Rhode Island warrant," the release said.
Silva was charged as a fugitive from justice and taken to the Northwest Regional Correctional Facility, according to the release.
His bond was set at $20,000 cash pending extradition proceedings, the release said.
