Beacon Summer Knights To Premiere Romeo And Juliet Tonight
The summer theatre program at Beacon Charter School for the Arts will be presenting Romeo and Juliet with a twist from July 21 - 24 in Room 302 inside the high school.
The Beacon Summer Knights will premiere its version of Shakespeare's classic love story Romeo and Juliet Thursday night at Beacon Charter School.
The story is set in 1954 Wisconsin, right before elections for city council chairman. Capulet is running against Montague and Capulet's supporters are accusing Montague of being a Communist at the height of the red scare.
The Summer Knights, a summer theatre program directed by Beacon theatre teacher Jason LeClair, is made up of Beacon students, alumni and members of the community ages 13 - 21. This is the program's second year.

The actors hail from seven different high schools as well as five colleges. Auditions were held on May 31 and they have had about 21 rehearsals, according to LeClair.
Romeo is being played by George Lavoie, a Beacon Charter school junior and North Smithfield native, who has had multiple leading roles in productions at Beacon.

Nicole Cayer, a sophomore at Rhode Island College who is from North Providence will be playing Juliet. She has been performing in Rhode Island since she was 9 and got her start at Theatreworks in Woonsocket, according to LeClair.
The technical director is Chris Cournoyer, a Woonsocket resident and Rhode Island College student who was one of the original Beacon Knights when the school was founded in 2003.
The play will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in room 302 at Beacon High School. There will be a Sunday Matinee at 2 p.m. The cost is pay what you can with a suggested donation of $5.
