Bernon Junior Division Elks Headed To State Championship Saturday

Elks best Burriville Sunday 4-3.

 

The Juniors finished their All-Star quest with a win over Burrillville in the Championship game held at Burrillville Middle School on Sunday. 

The new Junior League Division Champions held on to their undefeated status in taking the game 4-3 in 10 innings.  This was the second match up against Burrillville in a week.  They had previously won against the team on July 11 at Renaud field with a score of 8-4.

The crowd watched with anticipation as the rain held off during nine innings while the score continued to stay tied.  As the sun started to fade, a suicide squeeze in the tenth inning by Evan Masse scoring Sam Hunt with the winning run led the Bernon Elks to their first District 4 Junior Championship over Burrillville on Sunday night by a score of 4-3. 

In a game that lasted 3 hours, Jonah Houle threw 4 strong innings allowing 3 runs followed by Hunt who did not allow a run and struck out 8 over the final 6 innings while the defense played superbly.  Catcher Alex Denoyelle threw out 2 runners also securing the win. Hunt had 3 hits, Denoyelle had 2 hits and Masse had 2 suicide squeeze bunts.

Bernon now plays for the Rhode Island Junior League Division State Championship starting this Saturday, July 21, at Tomlinson Field in Pawtucket.
