Boys Basketball: MSC Suffers a Blowout Loss at Home

Evan Hopson and Ryan Anderson combined for 37 points, leading Johnston to a 68-42 victory.

Mount St. Charles hosted Johnston in the first league game of the season for both squads. Johnston built a big lead in the first half, and cruised to a 68-42 blowout victory.

Johnston got off to a 17-4 run from the opening tip, controlling their defensive boards and getting some easy baskets in transition. Captain Ryan Anderson had 9 points and an assist in the early spurt.

The Mounties countered with a six-point run, but that's as close as they would get during the match. Johnston stretched their lead to as many as 21 in the first half and led 39-20 at halftime. Anderson tallied 13 first half points for Johnston.

Johnston was able to get their star Forward, Evan Hopson, involved at the start of the second half. Hopson scored eight consecutive points for Johnston. The teams played pretty evenly in the second half and traded baskets without either squad gaining much ground. The Mounties started to get to the basket a little more often in the second half, but MSC was unable to get defensive stops to forge a comeback. The Johnston's athleticism on offense, coupled with their stellar interior defense were too much for the Mounties to overcome, and the boys fell 68-42.

Johnston gains its first Division III league victory with the win and will travel to Davies next Thursday in hopes to continue their early season success.
