Update: Furtado Offered Position in Somerset

Woonsocket Education Department Finance Director Stacey Busby is one of three finalist for a position in Somerset, MA.

The Somerset, MA school committee met with regional school committees last night to discuss the hiring of a new finance director and the Woonsocket Education Department's Stacy Busby was near the top of the list.

According to The Herald News, Busby, who currently serves as WED's director of business and finance, was one of three finalists chosen to replace James Kiely, who left the district before the end of last school year. Busby stood against Attleboro School Business Manager Marc Furtado, and Frederick Baker, former finance director for the Perkins School for the Blind. 

Busby was hired in 2008 has overseen the department's budget through some challenging fiscal years including cuts in state aid, a lawsuit by the city, and some tough recommendations by auditors hired to evaluate WED's spending. Her most recent financial report in August showed a in education spending for FY11.

Update: Woonsocket Patch has confirmed that Attleboro's has been offered the position, and the Somerset school department is in the process of negotiating his contract.
