
If you're not registered to vote yet for the Oct. 8 primary, time is shortΒ β the Board of Canvassers closes at 4 p.m. FridayΒ and will open noon till 4 p.m. Sunday for voter registration.
The Board of Canvassers office is located at City Hall, 169 Main St., on the third floor, directly across from Harris Hall.
The City will needΒ a primary to whittle down the fiveΒ mayoral candidates to three and the 15 City Council candidates to 14 for the Nov. 5 city election.
Vying to run inΒ the at-largeΒ mayoral race are incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine, current stateΒ Rep. LisaΒ BaldelliΒ HuntΒ (D-Dist. 49, Woonsocket),Β David Fisher, Roland Michaud, and Michael Moniz.Β
Potential contenders for the at-largeΒ City Council race are incumbents Council President John Ward, Vice President Dan Gendron, Christopher Beauchamp, Al Brien, Marc Dubois, Roger Jalette andΒ Bob Moreau against challengers Eric Cartier, Jeffrey Belknap, Garrett Mancieri, Richard Fagnant, Melissa Murray,Β Kathryn M. DumaisΒ andΒ School Committee Members Anita McGuire-Forcier and Chris Roberts.Β
This year, thanks to aΒ referendum approved by votersΒ NovemberΒ 2012, the Mayor will appoint candidates forΒ the School Committee, who will then be approved by the City Council before taking office.Β Β
