Community Care Alliance Presents Awards at 125th Annual Meeting

2016 Annual Meeting

Woonsocket — Over 150 people attended the Community Care Alliance (CCA) 125th Annual Meeting on June 29th at St. Ann Arts & Cultural Center in Woonsocket, including Board of Directors, staff, Friends of CCA, and invited guests from the community. Board Chair, William Ryan, led the business meeting in which the election of John Raymond was affirmed as Director to the Private Sector. The slate of Directors and Officers was approved unanimously effective July 1, 2016.

The highest commendation, the Paul H. Dempster Award, was presented to Louise Phelan of Burrillville, for her 50 years of dedication to both former legacy organizations, first in 1966 as Executive Director for Woonsocket Child & Family Services and throughout on the Board of Directors and committees for NRI Community Services. She also received a Congressional Citation from Rep. David Cicilline. President/CEO, Benedict Lessing, Jr. accepted a special citation to CCA presented by Woonsocket Councilors, Melissa Murray.

The Ubuntu award to honor CCA staff persons who embody the spirit of humanity toward others was presented to Stephen DiZio, MD, CCA Medical Director; and Erick Marroquin, CCA Maintenance Specialist.

The special anniversary meeting celebrated its origins, the Woonsocket Day Nursery and Children’s Home, founded in 1891, with a slide show presentation and panel discussion, “Strategies to Bring People out of Poverty and Build Community.” Panelists included, Linda Katz, Cofounder and Policy Director of the Economic Progress Institute; Pamela Messore, CCA Director of Adult Outpatient Behavioral Health; Stump Evans, CCA Youth Services Manager; and Kyle Oliveira, The Harbour Youth Center member.
