Happy Friday, Woonsocket! Kathleen here with everything you need to know about what's happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy and milder. High: 47 Low: 33.

Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:

  1. Rhode Island is changing to community vaccination sites. The remaining state-run and municipal-run vaccination sites will end vaccination operations. The State Department of Health, in response to public input, will run about 100 COVID-19 vaccination clinics at schools, churches, senior centers, and other community sites over the next month. Vaccines will continue to be available at retail pharmacies and many doctor's offices. (The Wilton Bulletin)
  2. A plan for Truman Drive and the surrounding neighborhoods was shared during the 2018 mayoral race. Albert Beauparlant, then a candidate for mayor, called it Woonsocket's Heritage Canal District and said it had the potential to transform the city. This year an advisory committee was formed and chaired by Beauparlant. Denise Sierra, one of two city councilors appointed to the committee along with Roger Jalette, thinks the plan could impact the city's demographics, raising its median income level and attracting tourists interested in the region's history. 3. Thundermist Health Center is the first organization in Rhode Island to receive the "Joy in Medicine" recognition from the American Medical Association. It is granted for supporting the well-being of providers and reducing burnout. It's not just the first in Rhode Island, but also the first federally qualified health center in the U.S., to receive this recognition. (Valley Breeze)
  4. On Monday night, the Woonsocket City Council approved a contract with Election Data Services Inc. to provide redistricting services for the city. The General Assembly is in the process of redrawing the districts represented by Rhode Island's 38 state senators and 75 state representatives. When those are complete, Board of Canvassers Manager Michael Narducci said the city will begin the process of redrawing its voting districts based on the new legislative maps. (City of Woonsocket)
  5. The Woonsocket City Council showed support for a grant application to purchase the closed Ho Kong restaurant on Cumberland Street for the expansion of Cass Park. It's more than an acre of land and would serve in the plan for a new football field/track and parking.(City of Woonsocket)
