Dorcas Institute Receives Big Care Package from Amica Employees

Over the summer, the insurance company's employees collected more than 1,000 items to help the needy.

WOONSOCKET, RI – Low-income adults trying to build a better life for themselves and their families have found help with citizenship classes, education, job training and more at the Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island.

This summer, though, the institute, which is based in Providence received a helping hand from employees at Amica Insurance.

Over the summer, the Amica employees collected more than 1,000 useful items, such as supplies for babies and children, housewares and cleaning products. They made welcome packages and donated them to the institute for its clients.

"The welcome packages will go a long way in helping those in need," said Mike Gillerlane, senior assistant vice president in Amica’s claims executive department and a member of the institute's board of directors.

Anything that didn't fit in a welcome package went directly to the institute.
