This production will not be a carbon copy of last year's performance, but a fresh take on Dickens' story as interpreted by Ashley and the Encore crew. In a recent interview held between Ashley and a local newspaper, she revealed why her version of A Christmas Carol will be different then version previously seen at the Stadium.
"The other versions that I have seen of A Christmas Carol only show the end result of Scrooge's life revealing only that he is a wretched old man without showing how he became that way. In other versions, during the Fan and Young Scrooge scene, Fan makes quick references to how their father seemed to have a grudge against Scrooge, but we never really find out why. So in my version I will actually reveal to the audience why he was been sent away to school and why his relationship with his father was the way it is. To help illustrate this, I've added a scene with his father which shows how Scrooge started to follow his father's path, even if he didn't want to, and show how Scrooge begins to repeat the cycle with his nephew Fred.
There has been a lot of buzz about this being a "darker" version then what is regularly presented at the Stadium; however, my version will ultimately culminate in the happy and heartwarming story that everyone loves. To create a slightly "darker" feel, we will be using a few special effects, sound cues and special stage entrances, BUT DON'T WORRY, this is no Tim Burton's Christmas Carol!"
