Father and Son Hurt in Balcony Fall

A third floor porch railing broke, sending them to the ground.

A 30-year-old father and his 5-year-old sun are recovering from injuries they sustained after falling from a third story balcony in Woonsocket on Sunday.

Woonsocket police said that the victims were transported to the hospital after crews responded to the 9th Avenue apartment at around 10:20 p.m.

Police said they fell after a railing broke.

Residents of the building said that the landlord had told them not to use the balcony because the railings were unsafe.

The city reportedly had deemed the railing unsafe.

A witness said that the man was throwing trash over the railing when he fell. The boy fell after trying to help his father.

Another witness said that the father landed on a trash bag, which broke his fall. But the boy landed head-first into a bucket and just missed a picket fence.

The boy suffered a broken arm, lacerations and cuts and bruises.
