Fire Capt. Michael Morin Sworn in as State Rep.

Woonsocket Fire Capt. Michael Morin on Tuesday was sworn as the new District 49 state representative.

Morin, a Democrat, last month won a special election to fill the House seat formerly occupied by Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. Baldelli-Hunt in November was elected mayor of Woonsocket.

Morin defeated Douglas T. Brown and Mark Chenot in January's primary.

"I am honored to serve the people of District 49 and I look forward to fulfilling the duties they’ve entrusted to me," Morin said in a statement. "I plan to work hard to learn quickly, because even though I’m getting here almost halfway through the session, I want my constituents to be fully represented."

Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis administered the oath to Morin, who was joined by his mother, Ann Marie Morin. She held the Bible for the ceremony. Also in attendance were his brother, David Morin and his fiancé Marilyn Zuller; brother Christopher Morin; stepsister Sarah Kulaz, niece Julie Houle; his friend Patty Tatro, his mother’s friend Bob Royley, and others.

Morin, 48, He has been a member of the Woonsocket Fire Department for 26 years and is the former president of the Woonsocket Firefighters, Local 732. He has lived in Woonsocket for more than 40 years and is the youngest of seven children. He's a 1983 graduate of Woonsocket High School and holds a degree in fire sciences from the Community College of Rhode Island.
