Fire Capt. Michael Morin Sworn in as State Rep.

Morin, a Democrat, will serve in the seat formerly occupied by Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.

Woonsocket Fire Capt. Michael Morin on TuesdayΒ wasΒ sworn as the new District 49Β state representative.

Morin, a Democrat,Β last month won a special election to fill the House seat formerly occupied byΒ Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.Β Baldelli-Hunt in NovemberΒ wasΒ elected mayor of Woonsocket.

MorinΒ defeatedΒ Douglas T. Brown and Mark Chenot in January's primary.

"I am honored to serve the people of District 49 and I look forward to fulfilling the duties they’ve entrusted to me," Morin said in a statement.Β "I plan to work hard to learn quickly, because even though I’m getting here almost halfway through the session, I want my constituents to be fully represented."

Secretary of State A. RalphΒ MollisΒ administered the oath to Morin, who wasΒ joined by his mother, Ann Marie Morin. SheΒ held the Bible for the ceremony.Β Also in attendance were his brother, David Morin and hisΒ fiancé MarilynΒ Zuller; brother Christopher Morin; stepsister SarahΒ Kulaz, niece JulieΒ Houle; his friend PattyΒ Tatro, his mother’s friend BobΒ Royley, and others.

Morin, 48,Β He has been a member of the Woonsocket FireΒ Department for 26 years and is the former president of the Woonsocket Firefighters, Local 732.Β He has lived inΒ WoonsocketΒ for more than 40 years andΒ is the youngest of seven children.Β He's a 1983 graduate ofΒ WoonsocketΒ High SchoolΒ and holds a degree in fire sciences from theΒ Community CollegeΒ ofΒ Rhode Island.Β
