Gallery: Stanley Cup Makes Brief Appearance in Providence
Recap on the Stanley Cup appearance at the Rhode Island Convention Center, September 8, 2011.
The Stanley Cup, also know as the "Lord Stanley Cup" paid a visit to the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence on Thursday, allowing Bruins fans a brief chance to see the hardware in person. Prior to the cup making its way to the stage, Boston Bruins Public Address Announcer Kelly Malone welcomed the crowd as he slipped on his Tim Thomas jersey in front of 2,000 fans.
Also in attendance were Governor Lincoln Chafee; Providence Mayor Angel Taveras; Providence Bruins Head Coach Bruce Cassidy; Providence Bruins Captain Trent Whitefield and Bruins Assistant General Manager Don Sweeney. Sweeney, who could not get his name on the cup as a 16-year veteran of the NHL, lifted the trophy over his head as the crowd cheered.
