Happy Saturday, people of Woonsocket! Kathleen Stoddart here with a whole lot of things going on in town today.
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the afternoon. High: 61 Low: 35. Breezy sounds better than yesterday's crazy wind! Friday's storm lashed Rhode Island with flooding and power outages. All of the stores along Eddie Dowling Hwy were without power in the afternoon.
Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:
- Great Things to Do in Rhode Island This Weekend! Brown University is putting on "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder." Waterfire Arts Center is hosting Providence Artisans Holiday Premier Sunday from 10-4 p.m.(GoLocalProv)
- Woonsocket Firefighters were called to Coe Street around 5:30 a.m. and found smoke coming from the home. The three people inside were able to get out with no injuries. There is damage on the back of the home where the fire started. The Fire Marshal is investigating. (WPRI.com)
- Main Street bar has been fined $250 for staying open after hours and allegedly refusing entrance to a group of police officers. It happened more than once but the new bar had never been fined before so the punishment was pretty lenient. It has to close by midnight so get there earlier! (Valley Breeze)
- Pavilion Plaza on Diamond Hill was sold to new owners, SSS LLC, last month. The previous owners said it was time to retire. The new owners are Shajid Shaikh, Sahid Tai and Mohammad Patel. They paid over $3,000,000 and are looking for more businesses. That's where SSI has an office. Women & Infants just closed its satellite office. (Valley Breeze)
- The Polar Express Train is returning after last year's closure due to COVID-19. Tickets are on sale now with premium tickets selling out quickly. Customers are to arrive at the Woonsocket train station located at 1 Depot Square to view the performance and board the train. The event will be held on weekends from Nov. 19 to Dec. 19. at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Woonsocket Call)

- The Gym LLC is hosting a vendor fair from 8-11 a.m. on Diamond Hill Rd.
- Landmark Medical Center ER wait time is 53 minutes.

- The Museum of Work and Culture will have the Wiki Edit-a-Thon from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday Nov. 14th. Participants will learn how to edit Wikipedia and add to pages on women from Rhode Island. (Facebook)

Thanks for following along and staying informed with Kathleen Stoddart! I live in Woonsocket and have 3 grown kids and 3 dog babies to keep me busy. I love hardware stores and can be seen checking out all the cool stuff. Being a Realtor, I sort of have an excuse. It's heading into the Christmas season when I get to make baskets of goodies for our service workers and neighbors . Neighbors, please don't think we're crazy but my husband cooks his delicious deep-fried turkey and lowers it into the pot with his hockey stick!
