The U.S. Census Bureau reports 12.6 percent of the Woonsocket population claims Irish ancestry. Of a total population of 41,012, about 5,162 people in Woonsocket are Irish.
Tuesday, March 17 isn’t the only day to appreciate Irish heritage. The entire month of March was named Irish-American Heritage Month by Congress in 1991.
