Jamal Rogers Sentenced for 2012 Sexual Assault in Woonsocket: AG
The 15-year-old victim was on a swing set in Cass Park when she asked Rogers for the time of day.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Jamal Rogers, 24, was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to serve and 15 suspended with probation. According to Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin's office, he was found guilty in January of assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Woonsocket. He also must register as a lifetime sex offender, go through sex offender counseling and have no contact with the victim.
According to court records, on Feb, 2, 2012, Rogers encountered his victim on a swing set at Cass Park.
"She testified that she asked him for the time, to which he replied he did not have a watch and then asked her if she had any marijuana. She said no and then began to walk towards a nearby school to check the time," Kilmartin's office said. Then Rogers grabbed her, pulled her into woods behind the swings and sexually assaulted her.

"After the assault, the victim was able to escape. She ran to her grandparents’ home, and although they asked if she was okay, she did not tell them about the assault because she did not want to upset them," Kilmartin's office said. But the next day, she told a school counselor, who contacted police.
Woonsocket Police Detective Sergeant Matthew Ryan led the investigation and Special Assistant Attorney General Alison DeCosta prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
