K-9 Aspen on the Job: Police Seize 50 Grams of Cocaine
The city's new police dog has dived right into the job; and on Wednesday, she helped officers seize 50 grams of cocaine.

WOONSOCKET, RI — Aspen, Woonsocket's new police dog, met the press on Monday when the department introduced the 3-year-old female German Shepherd.
On Wednesday morning, she helped fellow officers collar a drug suspect and seize 50 grams of cocaine. According to police, on Feb. 1, Officer Kyle Bishop conducted a traffic stop on Elm Street. During the stop, assisting officer Seam Rochette noted some suspicious movements by the passenger, Michael Wilkerson, in the vehicle.

Suspecting narcotics and /or weapons might be in the vehicle, K9 Officer Jason Berthelette and his partner Aspen were called to assist. When the occupants were warned that Aspen was going to search the vehicle, Wilkerson admitted to having cocaine in the car, police allege.
Officers then located approximately 50 grams of cocaine in the center console which was seized. Wilkerson was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine.
