City Council Challenger Anita McGuire-Forcier told the crowd at Chan's concert room she would hold state reps to account for their votes during candidates night Sept. 24.
McGuire-Forcier, a long-time member of the Woonsocket School Committee and its former chairwoman, reminded an-elbow-to-elbow crowd that Woonsocket's Schools needed the Budget Commission and its ability to grant a $12 million cash advance, to keep the schools running. "Without a Budget Commission, we would not have gotten a cash advancement," she said.
McGuire-Forcier lost her chairmanship last year to Vice Chair Vimala D. Phongsavanh after Committee members, in particular John Donlon, complained she spent too much time focused on the budget of the deficit-burdened school department.
"We are responsible and entrusted with the proper allocation of all federal, state and local dollars. This is written in our RI general laws, so I don't understand how you can say it's not our job," McGuire-Forcier replied at the time, quoting from RI General Law 16-2-9, which gives the School Committee the responsibility for the budget.
McGuire-Forcier also vigorously protested the move in an essay posted to Woonsocket Patch.
If elected to the Council, McGuire-Forcier said, she would hold state reps accountable for their votes.
