
Woonsocket firefighter Michael Morin'sΒ Democratic primaryΒ victory for former Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt's vacant Dist. 49 post is official.Β
Robert Kando, executiveΒ director of the RI Board of Elections,Β reported theΒ absentee ballot count todayΒ had not cost MorinΒ the win.
The official count, with the absentee ballots in, Kando said, is:
Michael Morin: 373
Douglas T. Brown: 334
Mark L. Chenot: 9
Morin, reached at 4:20 p.m. after learning the results, expressed relief that the wait to learn the count was over. "It's been an interesting two days," he said.
Morin said on Tuesday he felt a little subdued, since the absentee ballots had not been counted yet.Β "Now that it's official, I'm excited," he said.Β
Morin acknowledged he still has to best any write-in campaign during the Feb. 25 specialΒ election, but, after that, "I can't wait to get working," he said.Β
