Woonsocket firefighter Michael Morin's Democratic primary victory for former Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt's vacant Dist. 49 post is official.
Robert Kando, executive director of the RI Board of Elections, reported the absentee ballot count today had not cost Morin the win.
The official count, with the absentee ballots in, Kando said, is:
Michael Morin: 373
Douglas T. Brown: 334
Mark L. Chenot: 9
Morin, reached at 4:20 p.m. after learning the results, expressed relief that the wait to learn the count was over. "It's been an interesting two days," he said.
Morin said on Tuesday he felt a little subdued, since the absentee ballots had not been counted yet. "Now that it's official, I'm excited," he said.
Morin acknowledged he still has to best any write-in campaign during the Feb. 25 special election, but, after that, "I can't wait to get working," he said.
