But even before his relationship with Aerosmith, Hull's experience as a bassist began in High School with ex- Jimi Hendrix drummer Buddy Miles. He went on to record four albums with Miles, 'Them Changes', 'We Got To Live Together', 'Message to the People' and 'Buddy Miles Live'. Hull even played at the funeral of the late Jimi Hendrix.
Shortly after working with Miles came Hull's first support slot with Aerosmith. That was 1978.Â
Hull has also served as producer and co-writer on the legendary James Montgomery 2011 release 'From Detroit to Delta' and on the upcoming George Lewis release 'Here Comes the De La Vegaz' on Malaco Records.
Hull's performances include an awe-inspiring stage presence. Usually it's the guitarist that gets all the attention as artists do their aerobic exercises on stage. This is not the case when Hull is up there. Hull is cool. Very cool.
The backbone of all modern music is the song's rhythm section, that consists of the bass and drums. But it's the bass that establishes and maintains the essence and drive of the song. The first rhythm you ever heard was your Momma's heartbeat before you were born, and because of that you have an innate craving to hear a musical rhythm section for the rest of your rock and rollin life. That is where Hull comes in as a bassist extraordinaire.Â
'Soul in Motion' reflects Hull's roots in Motown, R & B and Hard Rock. Hull's band consists of George McCann from the 'James Montgomery Band', Steve Hart of 'The Peasants,' Jim Gambino of 'The Swinging Steaks' and Hull's brother, Chris Hull of 'The Loonatics.' Opening up for Hull is 'Ursual George with Thom Enright.'Â
The 'Soul in Motion' CD will be available after the show on Friday evening.Â
Chan's provides an intimate stage experience which keeps the artist and audience in close contact creating a wonderful chemistry. And don't forget their exceptional cuisine! Show starts at 8 p.m. Ticket Price: $15
