Photo Gallery: Friends of Martin Crowley Gather for Annual St. Patty's Day Fundraiser

The event took place at the Elk's Lodge on Social Street Thursday evening.

The friends of Martin Crowley gathered for their annual Friends of Martin Crowley Fundraiser to celebrate St. Patricks Day at the Elk's Lodge on Thursday evening.  The event began 15 years ago to raise money for a scholarship fund in honor of the late Martin Crowley, a beloved history teacher at Woonsocket High School.

Each year the money raised is used to provide a $1,000 scholarship to a Woonsocket High School student interested in furthering their education in social studies or history.

The event is held on St. Patrick's Day because that was Martin Crowley's favorite holiday, according Romeo Berthiaume the chairman of the committee that runs the event.  This year 210 area residents turned out for some corned beef, boiled potatoes, carrots and cabbage cooked by Woonsocket chef Gary McLaughlin.
