RI Man Accused Of Setting Own House On Fire Faces Indictment
Carlos Figueroa Ortiz, 29, was charged with first-degree arson in connection to a house fire on Evergreen Avenue.

WARWICK, RI — A Warwick man accused of setting his own house on fire was indicted by the Statewide Grand Jury, the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office said Tuesday.
The jury indicted Carlos Figueroa Ortiz, 29, on March 30 and charged him with first-degree arson.
Police said the fire happened on June 9, 2021. Around 8:15 p.m., emergency officials responded to 50 Evergreen Ave. and found the single-family home fully engulfed in flames. Police said all the residents made it out of the home safely.

Ortiz was arrested following a joint investigation by the Warwick police and fire departments. In a news release, the Warwick Police Department said Ortiz was a resident of the house that burned.
Ortiz is scheduled to be arraigned in Kent County Superior Court in Warwick on April 22.
