Local Hockey, Basketball Teams Earn High Seeds

Woonsocket girls basketball and MSC hockey enter the playoffs with high seedings.

Woonsocket
girls basketball finished up its season with a 13-5 record, winning its last two by double-digits over North Providence and Ponaganset. The Villa Novans secured the 2 seed in the northern division of the state tournament and will host 7 seed Chariho tonight in the preliminary round. If Woonsocket advances, it will face 3 seed Westerly, which has already won its first round game, at Rhode Island College on Sunday.

MSC girls basketball lost their final two games of the season and finished with a disappointing 5-13 record. But the young squad will lose no players to graduation, so the future looks promising for the Mounties.

The Woonsocket and MSC boys basketball teams finished up their seasons this past week. It was a disappointing season for squads, finishing with identical 1-17 records, and missing the playoffs. Woonsocket will lose five seniors, while MSC will only lose three, giving both teams a chance to improve next season.
