5) Vietnam - On this day in 1973, US Troops left Vietnam, according to brainyhistory.com. The departure happened nine years after The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, a response to a naval battle between the US and North Vietnam. The resolution allowed President Lyndon Johnson to increase US military involvement in the country.
