Two Mount Saint Charles Students Nominated to Service Academies

Today, Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) released the names of six students from Rhode Island’s First Congressional District whom he has nominated for the United States Service academies and two of the six attended high school in Woonsocket at .

“One of my greatest responsibilities is to nominate Rhode Island high school students for enrollment in our nation’s military academies,” said Cicilline.  “I am confident that these outstanding young people will continue to build on their impressive records as they commit to serving our nation.”

Students selected this year have been nominated for consideration at either the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, the United States Military Academy in West Point, or the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs.  Cicilline nominated Jennifer Boisclair (William J. Tolman High School in Pawtucket) and Patrick Spero (Portsmouth High School) for the United States Naval Academy; Audra Morrow (Mt. Hope High School in Bristol) and Connor McCarty (Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket) for the U.S. Military Academy; and Adam Collamati (Mount Saint Charles Academy) and Ian Goulet (Burrillville High School in Pascoag) for the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Last December, Cicilline convened an independent U.S. Service Academy Selection Committee to interview candidates and consult him on the selection process.  The committee was comprised of Rhode Islanders from various backgrounds in education and service in the military.

“I am especially grateful to the Rhode Islanders who donated their time on the Selection Committee to recommend candidates for nomination,” added Cicilline. 

Candidates for a congressional nomination are considered on the basis of a Nomination Application, personal essay, two letters of recommendations, SAT or ACT test scores, and their high school transcript.  Students interested in applying for the Class of 2017 will be required to submit the requested materials no later than October 31, 2012.
